Back to letterforms!... 'Hand Made Type Workshop' by Charlotte Rivers informed me of how to create a font from my typeface in Fontographer.
I worked out how to import each individual letterforms. Each letter, glyph and number needs to be its own .eps file.
I found that my letterforms would import as funny sizes, which was made even clearer when I trial exported the font.
Initially I simply tried making the letters smaller in Fontographer by using the scale tool, but this was done by eye and I wasn't happy with this judgement. As my font is based on Helvetica, and I want this to be clear, they letterforms need have the exact values as Helvetica would. Found how to import Helvetica Bold elements into the font window...
This wasn't too reliable either and I could only select Helvetica, not Helvetica Bold. I need to come back to this tomorrow and delve deeper into how I can reliably scale my letterforms to the same as Helvetic Bold.
