Printmaking

The Printmaking Workshop at Blenhiem was way better than my Elective at Vernon Street, I learnt so much more and became more interested in using this technique in the future. We also got introduced to a few designers who use these screenprinting techniques; Seripop, Drew Millward and Alyoisiuss Pyker.

Halftone
This technique is used by newspapers to create their images and this printing technique stimulates continuous tone images through the use of equally spaced dots of varying size. I really like this technique and close up the dots look really interesting, but manage to form an image when you stand a sufficient distance away.

Spot Colour
You can use as many colours as you wish with spot colour and overlap them to create more colours. Using this technique you normally make your screen with larger areas so your result is block colour rather than dots.

CMYK Image
This example isn't very good and one contributing factor may be because tracing paper was used initially to transfer the image onto the screen. When printing photographs it is best to use acetate. However I can still see and understand how this works and would like to try this technique again.

CMYK Halftone
This is my favourite printing technique which I learnt in the workshop. Using a filter on Photoshop you can enable any image to be printed in this way. As CMYK make all the colours you can really create an effective piece, but again as like with the first exampple, when close up you can see al the individual dots. I will definately use this technique again!
