Choosing briefs

I choose all my briefs from ISTD as I thought this would be easier to integrate the briefs together and they seemed to have more detail an be less corporate based.

My top 5 briefs were...
  1. Environment Typography Environment
  2. Flatland
  3. Imbalance
  4. Three Minutes
  5. Type Factory

To get some work for my portfolio to be happy with and to demonstrate the direction I want to go in I need to create a brief of my own to achieve this.

Subject
I want the content given to me. I enjoy researching, however I find it hard to make decision about what research to take forward and what to forget. I really like in the Flatlands brief that it was based on a book. I wish to adapt this to 1984 by George Orwell.

Problem
Informing an audience an important to me and I would rather do this than promoting, advertising or entertaining. I like to deal with passing on information, especially based on facts. I think I would like to design for the Big Brother Corporation and telling people how they can get involved in Hate Week. This is obviously not something I would do in real life, but it would give me an opportunity to get my teeth into something and would show my interest into juxtaposition. By making Hate Week a good thing it would be very interesting to show how design can affect communication.

Product
Layout of printed material is one of my main drives, however as I have learnt digital skills I do like to design across media. I am type based and in my portfolio would love to have a typeface I have designed and used across media. I do not want to create any imagery, but will use it alongside text if this is necessary.

Range
Editorial design is an area I am most interest in along with any other cross-platform designs which would be appropriate.

Media
I would love to try out different stocks and printing processes to communicate better with an audience and stand out as a quality piece.
